Did you know kale was, at one time, only used as a garnish in restaurants, like on the buffet at Pizza Hut? People didn’t realize the benefits of it, instead, they looked down on it like it was an inedible vegetable. People today recognize kale as a powerhouse vegetable. It is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. I’ve featured it in this delicious kale banana smoothie. This healthy smoothie provides a load of essential vitamins and minerals. This will start your day off right, giving you a ton of energy to power through the busy day you have ahead of you. If you’re not a kale fan, don’t fret!
I guarantee you won’t be able to taste it in this kale apple banana smoothie.
Why is kale super helpful?
Dark, leafy greens are a great addition to any diet. They contribute a boatload of vitamins and minerals that our bodies need to function. Kale is one of the most nutritious vegetables out there, and it’s super versatile! You can add kale to green smoothie recipes, build salads with it, make kale chips, or saute it as a side dish. It’s my family’s number one choice of the dark leafy greens out there. The best part of eating kale? It is high in Vitamins A and C, provides your body with Potassium, Vitamin B6, Calcium, and 3g of protein for a single cup.
What’s added in this green smoothie?
Mornings are always tough to get in a nutritious breakfast, that’s why my family and I love smoothies. You throw everything in a blender, pour it in a to-go cup, and you’re ready to fuel yourself on-the-go for the day. This healthy smoothie recipe is chock full of delicious, whole foods. I use very ripe bananas because they have a high sugar content. The sweetness helps balance out the bitterness from the raw kale leaves. I use a golden delicious apple, but you can use any variety of your favorite apple that you’d like. As you’ll see in the recipe, I remove the stems from the kale leaves, you don’t want your smoothie to be too fibrous. It can leave you with a lumpy smoothie instead of a smooth, creamy product.
